The story some of the ACMOC crew helped me with a while back is now published in [i]Diesel World magazine. It's in the paper magazine's September 2022 issue (on stands now) as well as being online at the place linked below. Again, this is my go-to place when I need to figure out what makes old Cats tick... many thanks to all the helped. Kent Bates lent a hand, and added his usual combo of gravitas and knowledge.

It was an "All Cat" issue for me.. I have two columns in DW and both were on Cat products. The other one is on the D200A/RD-1820 radial tank diesel, which I link to also. Enjoy and thanks again.

Time flies so it may have ben 35 plus years ago that I visited Ed Porter at his farm near Selinas Ca. Ed had several old cats in the barn but what I remember most was the Diesel 40 that he had purchased when it was 1 year old.The same operator had operated and maintained the tractor including overhals forĀ  40,000 plus hours. All parts, fuel, oil, and filter cost were documented in a diary that the operator kept with the Diesel 40 that was still operatable.

Hi, Jim Allen.
Thanks for the heads-up. Int'restin' readin' in both 'ar-tickles'. I had heard that Cat had built a tank engine during WW2 but did not know much about it other than it had been done.

Just my 0.02.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
