sounds to me like gaskets are out or else somethings in there that shouldnt be. it sounds like the rear seal on the pony is cracked
Hi Team,
sounds like the T/C Scav. pump has failed.
This can happen if the T/C housing is drained and not have at least 2 Gals of oil refilled. Upon start up with a dry housing the pump runs dry until the T/C leaks enough oil for the pump to scavange and return the said oil to the trans. reserviour.
Your low Trans oil level indicated that a lot of trans oil is in the T/C-flywheel housing and has been pressurised by T/C charge oil and been pushed out past the pony seals etc.
Only solution is to drain the Housing and remove and inspect the scavange pump. Do Not Forget to put in at least 2 gals of tranny oil before restarting.
If the pony pinion etc failed pieces of metal mayhave gotten past the suction screen and jammed the scav. pump gears and failed the pump.
Often used to get a T/C for overhaul at The Dealers only to find the metal the client found in his screen was from a pony pinion failure-or electric starter Bendix pinion and clutch for that matter- The T/C's often were OK and the screen and housing had not been cleaned out at the time of failure say some 12 months before and everyone forgot about the failure and assumed it was metal from the T/C. The T/C seal rings could also be worn and the Scav. pump cannot keep up with the leakage.
To test for this the machine should be stalled in gear for a few minutes and then shut off, then quickly drain the T/C housing, a good condition system will only drain about 1 1/2-2 gals of scav oil.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
