Hello,

Started our D8H up today and the pre-cup blew out. From the look of the pictures, the bottom half is still in the machine? What I have doesn’t look broken, but there’s got to be threads to hold it in place correct? No glow plugs on this cat.

Thanks

Not all that uncommon to have a chamber separate at the furnace brazed joint. Usual repair involves welding a nut or bolt to the remaining section in order to unscrew the lower half.

Thanks OM. After I get the other half out, could a good welding/machine shop repair the precup, or am I going to have to find another one?

Thanks again.

OM did you wait some time before attempting to remove after welding? I was thinking heat expansion from weld then wait to cool/contract may help to remove thread end easier.

Yes, let it cool before removal.

I got a good weld on a bolt, it’s TIGHT. It would be left hand thread would it?

Got it! Thought I welded the bolt to the block.

Old Magnet, this cat doesn’t have glow plugs. The part number you gave me, is that precup for an engine with glow plugs?

Thanks again so much for your help.

Glow plug pre cups fit the same no problem in using them, I think the older non glow plug pre cups may not be available anymore.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
