I was wondering if someone could give me some insight on how to replace the clutches inside the cable control unit and properly adjust them. Not sure what model unit I have but j took some pictures. Hope this helps narrow it down

O.m. thank you for the literature, do you have any on rebuilding it?

Yes I noticed too the tracks are on backwards but that's just how we got the machine lol by the looks it had a rough life

As for the tracks on the other side, I have never seen those style of shoes for those rails before. That is a whole new one for me. But the engine, starts right up really easy. One of it's best features!

My guess is the strange shoes are 'manganese rock shoes', I have seen a set on a 14A that worked on rock.

I have the service manual for the 18Fxxxx s/n. It's 18 pages.
Check the s/n tag to see if it's that model or the 87G/88G version.

By chance, is this tractor ex-military? That is a strange paint job plus the strange track shoes. Are there any plates on it identifying it as US Army or ? I have never seen this cable unit before.

The 128/129 CCU is typical of late model D8H and D9G applications.
Available in single and double drum configurations and bulldozer or scraper arrangements.

OM,

Any idea when these started showing up on the D8s? The D8H that I spent a lot of time on was built in 1963 and had the #29 CCU on it. I have no idea when the cable blades left the assembly line. Hydraulics were pretty standard by the mid-60s.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
