I recently sold my D2-5U in order to purchase a 47' d8-2u, the d8 isn't very pretty at the moment and been sitting a few years. I hear the 2u series has final drive issues. Anything else I should be looking for when I purchase it? I have to go down and get it running before getting it home, and was $3,000 a good deal for it? Thank you

Haven't had any problems with my 2U final drives and the horse power is turned up.

Is the engine free? Move the de-compression lever to start and roll the engine over by pulling the fan.

Some better pictures will help get you more replies.

Not aware of these final drive issues but I guess anything could be tore up if you work at it.
Price is in the ball park. Bottom line is usually scrap value plus hassle.
Last 2U I know that sold a few years ago was $5,000 for an ag tractor/no blade and it was a nice one with excellent undercarriage.

I have never heard of final drive issues either. Mine had set outside for 10 years when I bought it. One steering clutch was stuck but it broke free up by tying the steering clutch lever back and working it while jabbing the brake. You got blade and CCU. That is all good. Does it turn over?

I will get some better pictures of it Friday when I got try to get it running. The story I got it was last run 5 years ago.. My grandpa had a gravel pit for what seemed like a hundred years and told me the 2u series had weak final drives. Who knows he could be confused. One more question, how can I turn the fuel up on it? Is there a max fueling screw or rack adjustment? Thanks again and will get more info on it as soon as I get there Friday morning

Why try to mess up what could possibly be a good thing. If you want to burn more fuel a campfire is always nice. Just my $0.02.

Was just a idea. I turned the pump up on my 52' d4-7u and it seems to run much better since than, no extra smoke just enough to smooth it out at WOT.

Got the D8 today. Been sitting 5-10 years both poney and diesel fired up with ease. Clutches are a little tight but hey, she runs and moves again. Bring it home Sunday for some much needed love and care.
Anything special I should be looking to do to it? Being my first D8 of this vintage.

Hi, Neil.
Thanks for that. When I saw the original 2nd photo as Colter posted it, I thought he was stealing one from DowNunder. LOL.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
