Good day everyone.
I am a part-time farmer from South Africa, and bought myself a Cat D7E 48A8996 (D339-engin) to "play" on the farm. As I am more computer programmer as a farmer,
this become a really challenge when I starting to get problems with my machine.

The Cat started to lose power, and a knock (like diesel knock) could be heard.
When trying to start the machine (with either), it only run for 3 seconds.
Conclusion: No Fuel.

I worked through this forum threads, and tried to learn as must info as I could.
Using guidelines within this forum, I worked my way down to the area where I think the problem resides.

I check the injector and injection pump and concluded that the fuel pressure out of the injector is not enough.
While opening the housing to check the rack, I noted that the rack do not move all the way when using the decelaratorpaddle.
When opening the Governor housing, I noted that the weight (Governor) is lying in the housing not attached. I assume that the previous owner did not use a pin roller to ensure that the pin did not move out of position, as the other one has also no pin.
This caused the straight-pin loosen en fall in the housing while the machine where running.

This damaged a few parts, and need to be replaced.
1. Gear driving the meter drive
2. Gear driving the Governor Shaft assembly. Part: 6B9672 (gear with 13 teeth), missing some teeth
There was no damage to the gear on the Drive accessory shaft in the Governor housing.

As I would like to fix my problem and I need help/ advise with the following issues:
a. Do I need the hourmeter? Can I remove the shaft and return the Totalizing meter housing .
b. Where can I buy the gear on the Governor shaft assembly?
Is my part number: 6B9672 correct?
As I am from South Africa, and due to our exchange rate and courier cost, I would like to start by repair the necessary to keep the machine going.
c. What must I be on the lookout, while doing these repairs?

I would like to thank everyone sharing knowledge on this forum, as this give me a huge help with my challenge.

6B9672 is the correct number for the governor drive gear.
7H4282 is the number for the service meter gear.
The correct weight pin # is 6B6780 (2-required)
Try your local Cat dealer for the correct fix and parts.

Is it compulsory that I replace the Serve meter drive, or can I just leave it out ?

Why would you want to do that? Is it that you can't afford the gear?
The service meter serves a purpose as an indicator for correct maintenance intervals although they have been known to fail. Without it such attention would be questionable.
If you must, then blank flange the mounting otherwise without the shaft there is no oil sealing to the meter which will probably become an oil leak.
