We're pulling apart the left steering clutch on a Cat d6 9u. Does anyone happen to know what 8b7548 push puller looks like for a reference. Right now we have a 10 bottle jack on it. Or would it be easier to just find a shop to do it?
I could wrong again, but my guess this is to take tapered splined shaft out of the center of clutch pack.
The last several I took apart I used a 40 ton press. I don't think it makes the whole 40 ton by the gauge on it. It is older so who knows, but needed a bit of heat once I had it set up in the press and put the pressure to it. Cats tapered splines are good to keep ware from happening to splines, but a real challenge to get apart without all the proper pushing and pulling gear. The old timer that use to do this work always took them to a friend with 100 ton press.
Probably a little bit after I posted last, after talking to the steering clutch with a hammer and the jack, the thing came loose. All the pins are bent. Since we're in there, the throw out will be changed. One of the allens came out, but the other one needs to be drilled out.
