Anyone happen to guess what model starter this is? It came off a d6 9u. There’s no tag and I’m not getting good part numbers off this thing. I’ve already put it on 24 volts just not in the pictures

Delco MT 40 I think is the model from back in the day. But I am not a expert by any means, so that is a educated guess.
Ended up finding some numbers where the tag was.
That 1113740 is superseded by 1990453 (42MT 24v with 12 teeth straight - I assume that the D6 also uses a helical tooth arrangement so you'd want to buy that gear from ebay. Or are you continuing to use the 1113740?

To be honest I don’t know yet, I’m gonna try another starter shop

Could that part number be 1113746? That would be the correct starter for the 9U D6 and 7U D4 etc, cat part # 3L1227.
That appears to be the correct mounting and drive assemblies for those applications, and it would be 24V.
That's a nice looking starter, the drive looks new.

The bendix doesn’t have much ware on it. The armature is junk. We’re going to see if it can be rebuilt or get a starter with the correct nose. I ended up taking it down to Hartford ct
If you can not find the parts to fix this starter, the next best option would be to replace it with a modern 42MT starter with the helix drive and the correct nose cone typically sold / built for the D4 and D6 u series starting engine (pony motor) to direct start conversions.
Great post. I have had my head in the books trying to sort out a d4 starter. The book shows to different starters that look alike from the outside. Casting numbers are the same yet the insides are not alike. The early starter has the pos connection on the end and the neg on the side. The later starter has the neg on the end and the pos on the side. If you really look close at the book, one of the starters has the post on the end that lools to be isolated with a bushing of some sort. Working off my phone sorry cannot post the pic as found in my d4 book
This is two different starters I was talking about.
