Anyone know what hydraulic fluid is supposed to go into the blade’s hydraulic? Could I use utf or is it iso 32 or 46 or a different weight
Mike, When I was in hwy mtc, our hydraulic oil for all uses was from Chevron, Hydraulic Hoist Oil is what we called it then. IHC had their brand "HY-Tran Fluid" which was red in color. I do not think it would make any difference as to "brand names" as long as it is Hydraulic Oil. In your photo, looks like a one way snow plow - "no eyebrow"? A piece of conveyor belting bolted on the top hanging down was a big help reducing the overblow effect, especially if you have "DRY" powder. Also looks like the leading edge of a "wing" alongside the Cat. --- cts
Cat recommends a 10wt. hyd oil.

Thank you. In that picture that was the previous owners place. I didn’t have a picture of the hydraulic reservoir so that was the next thing. After looking more in the archives, is there any other hydraulic setups than a #46? That plow isn’t mine, but I have one similar that came off a Ford f700

Thank you so it’s looking like iso 32 then. I guess iso 46 is like 20w or something
When I did a hydraulic course many years ago we were told 68 for gear pumps, 46 for vane pumps and 32 for piston pumps.
32 = 15W SAE crankcase
46 and 68 fall in the range of 20 SAE crankcase
this is from Evolvent's oil viscosity chart.
I put ISO46 in the #44 on my D25U, basically the same design as a 46 I believe and is a vane pump (memory is a bit foggy now...)
i use caltex textrans tdh in our machine its a universal hydraulics transmission and diff oil for farm machinery. specifically designed for caseih/austoft cane harvesting equipment. it is approximate iso 68. yes niel they are a vane pump. sperry- vickers to be precise.
caltex say use delo gold 15w-40 or tdh. as we use it in the trans so makes sense use it in the hydraulics too.

You have not clutchs or brakes running in this hydraulic oil like in wheel tractor transmissions/hydraulic systems. So any oil that does not foam up will do. The 46 is a vane pump, I believe that is all Cat used in the pony motor era. Something with not as much power to spin it before the engine starts.
I have been using iso 46 in all my machines--D3b, 941b,D47u,D24u
i have a bit of a thing about hydraulic oils in hydraulics. engine oil for engines. gear oils in gear cases.
