I have a 1953 D47U SN 7U23468.

The Serviceman's Reference Books makes a distinction in several places regarding Later vs Earlier Tractors.

I have a parts document for the D4 which shows different transmission case and covers for SN (7U1-7U301😎, and SN (7U3019 to 7u13042) (parenthesis mine)

Does anyone know if the first set of numbers corresponds to "Earlier Tractors" and the second set to "Later Tractors"?

Thanks,
Glebis

The earlier covers were one solid piece with a small clutch inspection cover. If you weren’t a contortionist and needed to work on the clutch, you had to remove the fuel tank, disconnect linkage and remove the entire top cover. The later models had a small inspection cover and a large clutch cover that was fairly easy to remove.

Thanks for the responses. After initially not being able to adjust the main clutch to the point where the throw out worked, I applied a little extra elbow grease and obtained sufficient rotation of the adjusting collar to get a good clutch lock. No need to replace the clutch plate at this time.

if you can find the clutch adjustment tool supplied with the tractor. it takes all of the contortionist problems away. get one.😖hocked:

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
