Hello. Iam working on a friends D4 30a dozer and I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to check that the injection pump is in time with the main motor. I know on my D2 there is a measurment from the top machined surface of the pump, to the adjuster on the injection unit when you line up the timing marks. Would this be the same? Also how do I tell if the main clutch is a oil clutch or not? Would this unit have oil emersed steering clutches?
I believe this unit is the same as a d429a except that it was made in Aust.

Any help would be appreciated

If the D4 has the D315 engine it,s fuel pumps are made the same as the D2 with the old D311 in it with the starting engine across the back. That setting is 1.736" for both the D4 with D315 engine and the D2 with the D311 engine.

D4 6U/7U is the same as the 29A/30A.
If it has an oil clutch there will be a dipstick and tube by the right brake pedal.
The steering clutches are dry.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
