I am looking at a Cat D3G that is for sale what can anyone tell me about this machine. The owner says it has a 6 cylinder 3046 engine in it and that it is the last year of the G series produced around 2006 or 2007. This machine has 1545 hours on it with a 6 way blade and hydrostat drive.

My opinion is that the G series is the best ever built and I think Cat went backwards with the new K series. That engine is a great little engine, originating from the Mitsubishi-Cat joint venture. The hydrostatic drive is pretty much bullet proof in them. I can't think of anything that I didn't like about them. Even the rippers were an improvement over the old ones on the C series.

Is the engine a 6 cylinder 3046 like the owner said?
