Hi all, I'm looking for a little help on the D2 (4U6059) that I'm currently working on. Had some trouble with the starter pinion not staying engaged so out it came and the bolts holding the sleeve to the pinion gear are all missing. So what I'm looking for is the Cat part number for the new style bolts and metal locks for the pinion lock sleeve. I tried giving the Cat parts guy the old 4B7273 part number for the bolts and he said it didn't come up in his computer. Any help would greatly appreciated Thanks!

If your talking about the sleeve "Screws" the newest number I have is 4H1350. This part number was current as of 01-22-13 when I bought 3. Hopefully the threads on the sleeve assembly are still good and not "Jankified". 👋

Thanks! I'll try it out. The threads all look to be in good shape some of the holes in the sleeve could be nicer but hopefully I will be able to line everything up using some of the better holes (was given a price of almost $400 from cat for new sleeve). Have a new stop and latches on the way just need to get the new "screws" and locks going to add Loctite to them as well. Hope to have everything back together soon.

I am fully expecting to have to assemble, disassemble and reassemble several times until I am fully satisfied with how everything lines up and works before final assembly. The concern for using loctite is duly noted, but when you heat bolts with loctite I have found they come out very easily. Not my intention to have to go through this process again in the near future so I figure any steps to prevent the problem from reoccurring should help. I do appreciate the comments and concerns I like new ideas that keep me thinking thanks!

Boron--did you have any trouble getting the starter pinion assembly out--i am told it is a tight fit and not much clearance.

Use the locktite for final assembly plus locks. The big hazard is if the bolts get loose it's pretty certain the thread holes will get wallowed out/stripped in the process.

Hi I think it must have been you that messaged me via YouTube a couple of days ago regarding this problem. If you have trouble finding the parts through your local Cat dealer, I found that Florin Tractor (see parts source sticky post at the top of this forum for their info) has the fold over locks in stock using an old part #2A2468. No luck with the bolts though, hopefully you can find them with the numbers Joe gave you here. And it sounds like you've already got the routine down as far as dealing with Loctite, a little bit of heat loosens it right up so don't be afraid to use it in this application, those bolts need all the help they can get. Best of luck!

I did try to message you! I want to thank you for the videos you posted on you tube I found them very informative. I actually viewed them before I started to disassemble the tractor it was nice to see how all of the pieces were supposed to work. I was going to try a latch adjust first but when I got the inspection cover off the sleeve just spun freely from the pinion shaft so I knew something wasn't right. I just received the bolts, waiting on the locks they are coming from a different place.
