Guys does anyone know the size of the plugs ? My left steering clutch is stuck and without checking I started to fill the cavity with kerosene only to see it pouring out on the ground . Some shyster had taken the plugs out and did not replace them . Plugs on both sides are gone . I assume these are npt ? But I have no idea on the size . I'm sure some of the vets here would know . Thanks for any help .
You should consider buying used d2 plugs. Fresno tractor, general gear,
The steering clutch compartment drain plugs, 2B7411, are 3/4" pipe plugs.
They are supposed to be out unless operating in deep water or mud, the reasoning is that leaking oil is allowed to drain out and not soak the fiber clutch plates.
what you can do is drill a hole in the plugs and put a split pin in the hole so it stops the mud wasps etc building in there but it can still drain out. so a 1/4 dia hole you would use a 3/16 dia spilt pin.
it would be a good idea to have a couple of spare non drilled ones wrapped in a oily rag in the toolbox for when you need to bung them off.

The final drive drain plugs are shouldered and gasketed so don't mistake those for the steering clutch compartment plugs. If you already know this, please ignore.
Ok guys thanks for the info . Got a couple plugs coming . Gonna do the soak on that left clutch pack and try to free it up .
On a positive note I just finished up my new cutting edge and end bits installation this morning and while it wasn't an easy task I finally persevered . I used a Case center section because it was less than half the price of the factory Cat item . I also used aftermarket end bits because of the cost savings . All in all it looks and is way better than the wore out piece laying on the ground that some jackleg welded on to the existing edge to make do . I'm pretty sure that was the original cutting edge I took off . I cut all the old bolts off with a plasma cutter and did a good cleanup of the blade base before the edge went on .
Looks good and I can tell that they're not Cat because Cat edges are painted black : ) Doesn't matter - it'll still cut and push dirt like new
did you put some anti-sieze on the bolts. makes life easier the next time. unless book says specifically to put em in dry a light smear of anti-sieze on all fasteners. especially those in contact with dirt and moisture.

No just put them in dry . I figure the new edge will for sure outlast me and probably any future owners . The cleanup work I have to do won't take over a week then I'm not sure if I will keep it or not .
