Can anyone show me the correct installation of the 3 Orings that come with the replacement filter ? I know some are round and others square profile and they go on a certain way . Mine is leaking oil around the canister at the bottom and I suspect the gaskets are bad . Gonna pick up a replacement at Napa . TIA .

Back 20 or 30 years ago those gaskets where in the box with the filter. The last ones have not had any gaskets. But I still did not change them every filter change. But over time they harden and will leak as you are finding.

The fun part is getting the old gaskets cleaned out of the grove. The second place to use a gasket is the bottom of the canister. I believe any other gaskets would be for different applications that happen to use the same filter.

Decided to go with a Hastings filter online after finding out the Napa stuff comes with off size gaskets . Was gonna go with original Cat filter till I found out they don't come with gaskets and they want to soak you for another 10 - 15 bucks for orings . Thanks Ray for the reply .

here's a tip a little grease or oring lube helps em stay in place and seat without tearing canister style filters can be a pain the arse.

i used to use stag jointing paste on our old ford 400 because the canister mounted horizontally and was real "fun" to get it to stay in place and seal.

there is only three seals one either end of the canister sleeve and one under the nut.

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
