Hello
I was just wondering what sort of coolant should I put in my d2 radiator. I don't need the anti freeze property's but I need the rust protection. Someone told me the cat coolant might not agree with the cooling system in my d2?
Thanks
I can't imagine a commercial coolant that would have any detrimental effect on a D2 other than the GM/Dexcool permanent stuff that supposedly needs to be in a sealed/full system or it can turn into sludge. There are other "permanant" formulations of coolant that do not have the problems that the Dexcool has or you can go with the old standby "green" 50/50 mix of water and "anti-freeze".
I don't think I have ever heard of an old CAT engine having significant damage from cavitation, but if you want you can always add liquid SCA's to the coolant to eliminate any possibility. A place like NAPA should have some or be able to order it. Heavy truck and equipment parts store would likely have it too. I have been buying John Deere's since I am in there for other things on a regular basis. Many of the truck and heavy equipment engines use a water filter with the additives instead of the liquid.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄
