I've been thinking about getting either a 941B or 951C but was wondering which is a better machine and what are the mechanical differences? They seem very similar in size so its confusing as to why Cat made both machines so close. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Quadrajet2000.
They may look close in size but there izza HEAP of difference in capability and performance. The 951C will make a 941B look sluggish and weak. Both are good machines, very capable, especially when fitted with a 4-in-1 bucket and rippers, although I have heard that the 951C does sometimes crack final drive housings due to the extra power.

Just my 0.02.

Hi, dependzic.
The only 951C I ever got to operate had a turbo-ed 3304. It was a real 'goer' compared to any of the 941Bs that I ever got my favorite rump steak on.

There were a few of them around that same area and several of them apparently cracked final drive cases, I guess due to not being beefed up enough to handle the extra power. That was the only fault I ever heard of about them.

The first 951C's had the 330C engine fitted soon to be changed to the 3304 (non Turbo) the transmission and F/Drives are near the same with lots of these components also used in the D4E, the loader frame is different including all ram cylinders, the C has around 10 bhp more, but the biggest change is the track groups as the C runs the heavy 6".91 pitch chain with everything involved including the track frame is more robust. tctractors

Hi, tctractors.
WOW! If the non-turbo-ed 3304s in later 951Cs were splitting final drive cases, the one that I operated for a couple of weeks must have been a sure-fire candidate for it with a turbo fitted. It was quite a beast, happily reversing out of holes in 2nd gear where a 941B was pretty 'busy' reversing out of them in first gear. It sure could 'handle' itself.

Deas' I have never seen a 941/B or a 951B or C fitted with a turbocharger, only the 955, the 941 and 951B was fitted with a 10 tooth f/drive pinion and 58 tooth bull gear, this was changed to a 9 tooth pinion and a 52 tooth bull gear in the 941B and 951C also the bevel gear and pinion had a revision on the tooth count, the engine change from the 330C to the 3304 came for us a Serial No' 69H2520, the 951B changed to the 951C at again for us at 69H1869. tctractors.

Hi, tctractors.
I have never had the chance to check out any other 951s, 'B' or 'C'. I spent a fair bit of time on 941Bs but only ever got to operate that one 951C that had the turbo and it was LIVELY.

I did hear of a couple of other 951Cs around the area that cracked final drive cases which might have been the reason why the owner cashed this one on a 5MK 953B shortly after I operated it. That 5MK was another very good machine.
