At this point you should time the pump and remove it and send it to the pump shop.
You have no idea what taking these pumps apart does and what tools it takes to time the induvial injection pumps.
800 bucks is not that bad a price.
Bob
you are probly right, what do i have to time before removing the pump, do i just put #1 cylinder on tdc on compression stroke and then just unbolt the pump or is there more to it?
yes set 1 on tdc. make some alignment marks pump to engine case before you undo the pump bolts. this helps when it come to putting it back together.
disconnect the battery so it cant get cranked over accidentally.
the procedure should be in the service reference.
and it will be in the service book for the engine itself. cat engines where used in multiple applications. they had slightly different versions depending on application

The shops I deal with usually send the pump back timed on #1.
So look above or below the starter for a plug in the flywheel housing, It should say 1 4 TC.
Need a 3/8 by2 1/2 bolt in the hole and turn motor in running direction while pushing bolt in till bolt goes in hole in flywheel.
If your motor has a case vent on front of valve cover take that off and you should be able to see #1 rocker arms.
If both are loose your good ,if not pull bolt out and make 1 more turn.
Now pull pump off and note which way the drive tang is marked and put pump back on that way.
Good luck
Bob
take photos that helps remember how it went together.
