is there any tricks or pullers needed to remove the flexible coupling off of the flywheel side? i got the 6 bolts out and have banged and pryed on the coupling and cant get it to budge. the transmission wont come out with it still on there.

if i cant get that off all i can think of is bolt the trans back up, and remove the torque converter first then the rest of the trans.

I could be wrong but I don't think you should have to remove the section bolted to the flywheel. Just the flange on the torque converter shaft should suffice.Have never needed to on a D4 at least, which I think is all but the same in that area. It is a tight fit and sometimes you need to mess a bit with the angle that the trans is hanging at.
I recently had a D4 trans and converter in and out a few times getting the shimming right for correct pinion to bevel gear tooth contact.

There are three different style couplings for the 941, One includes a center bolt.

Here is what OM is talking about.
I've not seen the centre bolt version myself.

Hi, wlf8.
I have never had to remove that flange but I have had to replace the rubber couplings a couple of times. They always had two bolts in them, one from each side, and both had to come out before you could get the rubber coupling out.

Been a LONG time since I had to do it - 2008 or so - but that is my recollection.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

mine just has the 6 bolts around it, no center bolt. i tried every angle i could to get it out but cant get it lowered down without hanging on the front flange or the pinion clearing the hole it slides into.

How much clearance do you need? Has the engine shifted on its mounts?

Are you trying to drop the trans or lift it out? You need the machine on blocks to take it out the bottom.

i need about a inch or so. i wondered if the engine was further back than should be. the rear mounts look like are adjustable butt he front is just a bolt going down thru a hole so that doesnt have any adjustment does it?

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
