Hello, I just purchased a Cat 922 loader. Any advice / info on this loader? I saw one thread, but not much info. Are they good? what should i look out for? It is 4x4 and i am hoping to use it for snow removal. Was $3500.00 a good deal?
Here is a picture.... what year is it?

what is the serial number?

They are getting old. If it isn't a worn out wreck, it'll be very useful and most likely last a long time with normal maintenance.

Some had the D320 turbocharged engine, some had the D330 naturally aspirated, some the D330C (NA) and some the 3304 (NA) I believe. Basically a gradual improvement in the engine department! Some even had gasoline engines, though they were not common.

There were several different brake valve systems throughout the models, none of them were noted for being all that powerful or reliable. Probably because the shoes need adjusting pretty frequently, but many have no brakes and haven't had them in a long time (except for the big one on the front!)

If you're used to articulated loaders, the rear wheel steering may give you some pause. More like a forklift, but with really long forks!

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

That Is a buy.The brakes are a big problem but you can get or have everything rebuilt on them.

From what can be seen in that pic it looks like an early B series as it looks to have the longer wheelbase and higher arched rear fender...the air cleaner appears to be on the left side of the machine which probably would indicate a late 59A series with a D320 engine. If the above is correct it would be a '63 to '65 build.

Early wheelbase (sr # prior to 2084) is 78 inches.
2084-up is 86 inches.
