Cat 80 pan move from last year

Last fall in 2020, the farm my friend Bill Williams had his Cat 80 at was sold. He called our friend Ron Emmanuelson to come out with his Pete (425/13 speed) and Landoll to move it from Rocky Hill, CT to the Zagray Farm Museum in Colchester. 

Ron was 79 and healthy as a bull when I met him the year before. He drove that Pete cross country full time hauling anything he could fit on the lowboy or Landoll. He owned several Cats over the years and hauled many many more. Unfortunately he was diagnosed with cancer that spring and declined treatment.

We moved on a Sunday...lol. His friend drove the truck that day and Ron supervised the winching. We got it on, moved, and unloaded no problem. Ron left us before Christmas and he is missed in the northeastern truck and tractor community. The scraper is waiting for Bill to buy something to pull it with.

I know of a 46A that would be well-suited to the #80, that just needs a starter motor and replace the ripper with a hitch. Not too far from CT either, in Livingston Manor NY. It wouldn't go for much more than scrap I would guess.

Send me some info if it's decent enough shape. Bill was trying to score a 830M that was down this way but I fear it and all the scrapers it boarded with may have met their doom. 

Hi Austin, I contacted Fred and he's keen to speak with you or Bill about it. I've seen it in person and it looks in decent shape. The story with the pony is that someone with insufficient expertise wanted to buy it, so he visited, couldn't get it started (possibly didn't know anything about the decompression or running it long enough to get heat into the main engine) so removed the governor control and ran it ungoverned with predictable results. The pony possibly only needs a new rod and bearing to get it going, or it might have big enough dents in the journal to require refinishing. Everything is there, and the main engine etc. is greasy enough not to be thought to be stuck. Of course it would also be an easy candidate for direct electric start. If you were able to take a running pony or electric starter, you'd be able to quickly verify if the tractor runs. Or you could take a few gaskets and a spare rod and bearing and try replacing it while you were up there. We asked Fred to place buckets over the exhaust etc. so it may not have suffered any water intrusion. It looks like it would run ok. Undercarriage looks ok, semi-u blade, two-shank ripper, ROPS.
