Need help in figuring what year this is serial 5e326 engine 4d501 spare engine 4d609 which I need sheet metal for
went to look at blade sheet metal one thing lead to another and luckily most roads lead to yellow, and I was able to purchase the 66,
which was restored in 1999
so I have pattern for sheet metal, some say 1933 other 1939 I looked it up and I'm not sure
also would be interesting to know how many built thanks

The Cat #66 pull grader was built in two models from late 1932 or early 1933 to early 1942, when all pull grader construction was ended, in favor of motor grader and crawler production, to support the War effort.

The first model of the 66 was available in hand control and power control and wore a 6C S/N prefix. This model was built from 1933 to 1937 and it was built with double frame rails.

The second model was an entirely new model with a single frame rail, but was still called the 66 - but it was referred to as the "Single frame" model 66.

This second model wore the 5E prefix and also came in hand control and power control models. Both models had the option of steel or rubber tires.

Not sure on the total numbers built, but it would be in the thousands, as they were a fairly cheap purchase compared to a motor grader.

I'd have to say your 5E326 is probably 1937 year of build, but someone may have more info than me.

note, if your grader has the original big hand wheels it did not come with the power control option. those bigger pullgraders are awesome.

growlyone - The 66 pull grader brochure states the machine is designed to be pulled by a 60HP tractor.

Ag-mike - Yes, the foot throttle is pointed out in the sales brochures.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
