Would someone know the number of teeth
On the PTO shaft chain sprocket, the number of teeth on the
Mower input sprocket, and lastly what size chain #?
This is for a CAT TEN tractor fitted with the 4C mower.
Thanks
Rick

Someone will be along shortly with the answers to your questions Rick, but could I ask if you could upload some photos of the mower (and video if you have it). Thanks!

Anyone have more information on what ag type equipment Cat made. I know of the Holt combine Cat built until they sold the line to John Deere. But I was not aware of other equipment. I thought the relationship to John Deere was to fill this gape in the Cat line. And why many Cat dealers also sold the John Deere line.

Back in the 60's I knew of a JD nu 5 mower with all the hardware to attach to a D4. But long gone at this point.

Cat had a very brief foray into the ag implement space in the early 30's (and again in the 1990's, but that is a different story). The mower is the attachment that seems to be the most well known, but they also produced two models of multiple implement hitches, 10' and 20', and a hay push rake. A cultivator for the HC Ten, and a planter were at least partially designed, but never made it into production. The No. 1, No. 2 and No. 22 Terracers were also, at least at first, considered part of this ag implement line, but obviously since they heavily leveraged parts from they graders they were able to continue after the other products were dropped.

For the mower:
Sprocket on PTO shaft (1A9254): 5.442 pitch diameter, 17 teeth
Drive Chain (1A9152): #80W chain, 1" pitch, 5/8" roller dia., 5/8" wide, ~29" long
Sprocket on Mower shaft (1A8591): 4.179 pitch diameter, 13 teeth
The mower drive sprocket is a little tricky, because on the original setup it was not keyed to the shaft, but had teeth cut into the side that mated with a spring-loaded collar that was keyed to the shaft, providing a clutch if the mower stops moving.

Thank you Dave for these obscure details.
There is an additional function for the overload clutch you described
On the mower input sprocket. When the cutter bar strikes an immovable object, the whole bar releases and rotates to the rear by means of a hinge on the support arm. As it rotates a cam moves a rod that has a fork that pulls back the spring in the input shaft clutch thus removing power to the cutter bar. A neat feature.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
