Looking for a source of accurate info on the CAT 40 gas crawler. Nothing on the 40 Gas in the Technical Library.
Info that I have has conflicting data. One book says it has 3 cyl, another says 4. I would like to find complete data on that crawler.
Any info or link to info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

Bill,
The Gas 40 has 4 cylinders and the Diesel 40 has 3 cylinders. That’s all I can tell you about the 40s. Sorry. I’m looking at both side by side here at Santa Margarita.

So I have read that only 584 gas ones were made. Does that make these collectable and expensive, depending on condition of course?

Yes 584 built, 74" & 56" gauge options, 4 cylinders 5 1/8" x 6 1/2", 850 rpm, 13,310lbs, 52bhp..

Like any Caterpillar, they are all collectable.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
