No special tooling is required to mount the injection pump with offset tang. Tooling is required if you are going to check timing.
So as long as the tangs line up there's no way to have the timing off?
Not necessarily, the tang just restores the pump indexing to your original positioning. Compensation for wear or inaccurate original setting would need to be checked with the timing tooling and procedure.
Ok, well let's say for example if someone took the injection pump off and spun it, as long as the tang lines back up to the engine it's ok?
Basically, Yes.
Thank you for the information
Unless you have a good pump just sitting around you might want to just pull the pumps out the top of the housing and free them up. You will need to buy a splined tool to remove the retainers and make a timing fixture to set the rack in the centered position before replacing the pumps. I made that out of a piece of tubing and a bolt with a nut. The dimension hasn't got to be to the .001" accurate since all you are doing is getting the pump plunger gear quadrant indexed to the rack.
