Sounds like you may be looking at a M-F 1805-------I ran one for several years.
The 3208 was not one of the more durable engines CAT produced----high rpm----low torque engine design that needed to be operated at upper rpms and not lugged. Bought mine cheap knowing its faults------so no reason to complain.
At the same time----I became very familiar with the insides of the 3208; before installing a CAT rebuilt engine.
Hang on for some advice from the "pros" here--------but based on my experience, I would place no more value than the CAT core exchange value without seeing it run. Over fuelling was one of the major down sides of the 3208.

I've been looking to install a 3208 in a later model Ford pickup truck. I want to get rid of the gutless 6.0 liter engine and replace it with something caterpillar. Does anybody have any input?
G'day.DDDfarmer 3208's have a sleeve metering fuel system which cat used on 3200 and 3300 engines. The entire fuel pump housing and governor housing are full of fuel at transfer pump pressure, they certainly dont like water in the fuel and therefore need well maintained water traps between the tank and pump. The transfer pump is a little gear pump in an aluminium housing at the front of the fuel pump assembly, which can wear and create low pressure, should be about 30psi. Fuel pump has 12v or 24v fuel shutoff solenoid whichsits upright on the top cover and works on the rack, you could possibly take that of and check that rack moves freely other wise you can't do a lot with out doing a full job on the pump.
60steve. Its a big heavy engine to put in the front of a Ford pickup 10.4 lt 636cu in

You must have a 1-ton front axle, and remote mount the oil filter. These are only 200hp. A better choice would be a 12 valve 5.9 Cummins. 360hp using 100hp injectors, and run the pump up.
I thought about the cummins too. I wish that there was a cat engine that would work in such a scenario. I have a manual transmission. All it would need to do is bolt to that and fit in the engine compartment...
