Do not know what happened but had posted that this was one of the hardest purchases I have ever made and I have been chasing iron 50 years or more. This was advertised on CL early January. Eric Christenberry and a few more knew about it. When I called it was a grandson listing for grandfather. He backed out tow or three times and took over 4 months to finish the deal. LOOKS like it was removed from a dozer but really a slick job. Has a pretty good manifold and carb , missing top for mag. He says it was not stuck 5 years ago. Been stored inside for over 30 years. He got it from North Carolina where it was powering a saw mill. Only thing that makes me think it was maybe done by a cat dealer is the fuel tank looks factor and that fire wall all the controls fit perfect. No sign a breather anywhere. It is a full head engine , will check the tag for serial number tomorrow.

glad you were able to get it, i thought about getting it last year, after seeing it on Craigs list, when i was out that way but i understood it to be in west TN not GA.

Its funny that you say it came from NC, because i have a best 30 engine that was a power unit for a saw mill and i know of 3 more cat 30 that were also saw mill units. Must have been a popular way to power a small mill back in the day.

I agree with Pete, keep the patina i hope to see it running real soon.

Was listed as East Tenn but it was actually about 6 miles into Georgia there at the foot of Look Out Mountain. Must have been a Cat dealer over there building power units, This is just not cobbled up really looks factory.

I might be the only one who noticed, but it appears as if there's a drink cup with a straw sticking out of it sitting in the top of the heat box. If so, you just hauled home one of the coolest cup holders I ever saw, lol!

Actually I saw rain clouds coming up when I was 40 miles from the house and that was the first thing I could lay my hands on to make sure water did not go down the exhaust. Got it home before the rain hit.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
