has anyone ever used stop leak in these old cats with good results that have packing for seals as opposed to regular lip seals? i have used it in other crawlers and tractors but never any with packing. i didnt know whether the stop leak may damage or harden or simply ruin packin. i am not trying to stop the slow, tiny drip that occationally comes from around pump shaft but trying to stop a few small leaks between radiator top and bottom tanks and core without taking all that apart. regards, eric

I have used stop leak with no problems. It will work the best on the lower leaks as a CAT 30 is a non pressurized system. I just used some in my CAT D2 # 3J2 to stop some drips at the bottom of the tank. 30 years ago I missed a ground squirrel and killed my 22 rad. with a perfect shot with a 16 gauge double barrel shot gun.:eek2: The replacement rad. had a few leaks and stopped them with stop leak. No leaks to this day.

I have used this a few times seemed to work very well for the price. I have a Cat ten that I just can't seem to stop it has a very small weep from time to time. Think this stuff works well when there is a larger hole so it can get into to clog

Packing on the pumps seem to dry out and weep, then stop as they swell/saturate again from running.
Leaky gaskets may leak awhile till the stop leak/ bars leak works its way through the system!

fantastic. thanks guys. i was just reluctant to use it with packing for shaft seals. gonna give it a shot and see what happens. leaks are so small that stop leak should do the trick, eric

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
