I have newly refurbished and rebuilt 22 that my father, a close friend, built. We want to protect the freshly painted tracks from paved/rocky surfaces. But my question is how did Caterpillar go about protecting/covering the pads/pad tooth. Was it with a bolted down block of wood or rubber?

Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks

There was a rubber street pad that bolted on to the tracks made for the twenty two.

Some people put rubber pads on their restored tractors. I'm not sure where they got them.

Any idea how to make your own? What might be the best material? Or does anyone have any idea where to look at or buy any?

Wingman83 - Here's a seller with both bolt-on and clip-on varieties .. but I think you may need to sit down when you find out the pricing .. 😞

The simplest system is some oak blocks the right length and width to fit the flat on the pad .. then just drill them to suit the pads, and bolt them on, countersinking the bolt heads well below the surface of the oak.

I have a Cat sales booklet with pictures of the rubber pads made for Tens, Fifteens, Twentys, Thirtys and Sixtys - but it was produced long before the 22 appeared. However, I'm fairly sure that Cat produced rubber pads for all models.
