I don't have any contact but I know there was discussion on a similar thread on this.

I happen to do this myself and to start this project you'll need to take cover off from starter hole on the left side of the tractor and see if it has ring gear. If it doesn't have ring gear you'll have to pull engine and put ring on it. You can find and old 22 ringgear which is 118 tooth or put a ford courier diesel ring gear on it then find a 22 starter delco-remy 736-D. I think they are a bit rare but out there and if you want it original. Then you'll have to worry about a battery box.

I just ground the valves and reringed the motor so it would be easy to split the motor and trans now. And no it doesn't have a ring gear. It also looks like the flywheel may need to be machined to accept the ring gear, is this the case?
It is. Forgot to mention that.
You wouldn't happen to have the ring gear part # or the year and engine size for the courier would you?
Let me dig around in my part info and see if I can dig it up.
I wrote an article in issue 120 of the ACMOC magazine detailing how to convert a 22 to electric start.
You need:
Starter part number 4162S, also crosses to a Delco Remy that is more money.
Ring gear with NAPA # 600-3035. You do need to machine the flywheel.
Fabricated spacer.
Battery box.
starter wires and a switch.

Thank you for the info. I have purchased the starter and ring gear. Also have a back issue (#120) on the way. I will let you know how it all works out Guy
Let me know if you get stuck and I will try to help you out.
Hi chugwater crawlers, can you tell me how thick the adapter plate was and if the hole for the starter was in the middle, is it just big enough for the starter nose? Also do you have any dimensions for the machining of the flywheel, diameter, depth. There looks like there is a recess for the starter gear if it goes pass the ring gear when it engages. How much of a squeeze for the ring gear, .005, .010? The ring gear is .375 thick. How far on the flywheel is the ring gear, .375 or more, .500? Thanks Guy
