My very early 22 has a Zenith K5A that is leaking from sitting too long. I am going to get a kit and rebuild it. Are there any tricks to a K5A that are like the D2 pony lead seal or any other things unusual to look for? Any recommendation on a supplier? Thanks, Grant.

I would look at what part of the carb is leaking and focus on that. I have decided that perfection is temporary on something that isn’t operated often.

When I did ours, I didn't do anything special other than clean it and blow out the open passages and jets. Put a kit in it and it's work flawlessly since - 20 years or more and it only runs once per year. Starts on the first or second crank over every time.

If you take it apart, be careful not to break the venturi tube.

Yes, I have been warned about the venturi tube. I will be careful. I will take it off of the machine today and start removing what looks like 10 coats of paint. I think that I will take it apart before I start soaking in Carb cleaner. I dont know what the float material is, and dont want to damage it.

I am sure I will have more questions once I am into it. Thanks.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
