Is the bung wrench for the cat 22 square or hex? I found a 1B5175 wrench with two square ends but I'm not near the cat to see if it is the right one.

The 1B5175 wrench is correct for the 22, it is a 1/2" square, which plugs are you thinking of, some of the plugs on the 22 are hex, like the final drive fill level plug.

Josh, thanks for the reply. The cat hasn't been touched in 40 years so I'll need to service everything and most of the specialty tools have been lost. I'll go ahead and get the square plug wrench and start looking for a hex plug wrench, do you know the part number for it? Also where are the square plugs located?

I see the square plugs on the final drive upper fill hole, its raining so I didn't feel like looking too much. You do not really need the square wrench as a standard 1/2" ratchet wrench works just fine, the hex wrench is more practical, you can find an original or Cat sells an adapter that goes on a 1/2 drive, or make one with a nut and bolt. Part number for the hex wrench 6F3703, the hex adapter that goes on a 1/2" square drive is 5S9569.

Josh, thanks for the information and picture, I'll use the 1/2' drive and watch out for the hex wrench.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
