Can any tell me what the rod and main clearence are on a caterpillar 22 engine

Larry, I would try and get them shimmed to about .003". I would not try and go any tighter than that.

I remember reading min. .006, max. .012. It seemed like a big gap. That was with Babbitt bearings, maybe shell bearings are tighter.
