Hey guys I have 2 old road graders I might let go, I'm not sure yet but I was curious about the year. The first one I believe is a 212 the serial number on the machine and the engine are identical. It's "1R 337 S P" it has a 4 cup diesel with a pony motor. Is this the same motor that was in the D4?

The other one is gas and I'm not sure on the model but the serial number is "9 187".

Any info and help with the year would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The 1R series 212 graders were tandem drive models powered by the 3.75" bore x 5" stroke 4 cylinder diesel D3400 engine also used in the J series D2's. Gasoline models of that era used the same size engine as the diesel models. Tandem drive gasoline models would have been 2R and single drive were 8M.

The 9T series 212 grader came out in 1947 using the D311 4" bore x 5" stroke diesel engine. I don't think there were gas engine or single drive graders produced concurrent with the 9T

There should be matching serial number tags on the engine block near the pony motor controls and on the grader frame, somewhere forward of the cab. Engine swaps were pretty common, so the tags don't always match.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

I just started searching for a service manual for my 212 9t. haven't heard back from anyone including the local dealer, but since this thread is going, does anyone have a manual?
I stepped on the brake pedal last week after firing up the motor to run winter fuel additive through the system and it went to the floor. fluid came out the right wheel cylinder. seals must have been rotten. I had earlier replaced a rotten hose on the other wheel.. I have no clue how to get the wheel off to change the cylinder. It's going to be a spring job as it's sitting outside but I can start preparing now. going to replace both wheel cylinders and the master. I shudder to think about brake failure on my steep driveway.

Somehow I got the number messed up for the gassed. It's a 7e 247. Sorry about that. Anyway it's pretty old and has a wood cab. Thanks.

Probably a #10 Autopatrol
My info also says possibly could be a #11. There are mistakes involving other newer graders in that table that I know are mistakes, so I wouldn't say any of that info was certainly correct.

There are several guys here that have some of those old style graders, so someone will be along soon with better info. In the meantime, please post pictures of them both.

Hi Team,

Hope this Data is more correct than other forms.

Has them listed by model, then serial/year.
Looks like you have a #10 Auto Patrol '33-'34, and the 212 from '40

Someone mentioned a manual, I found my parts catalog on EBay, was printed in '48. No luck yet on an old service manual. The Jasco? Manuals I've read have poor print quality.

Looks like both these graders are staying in Illinois. My dad just traded his sawmill for these two graders. Hope they arrive at end of next month with my restored Cat 10.
