We have converted the D311 engine from the pony motor to direct electric start. The starter works great. All I am in need of is the 24 volt alternator and a compression release handle assembly which bolts to the engine. Can anyone recommend a place to purchase the alternator which will bolt up to the generator flange? Thank you.
If anyone has the compression release lever which bolts to the engine, I am in the market for it. We have the late new style engine arrangment.
Ages Cat, why did you go to a 24 volt system? A 12 volt truck starter will work fine on a 311. I am using one on a 330 and it works fine, even in cold weather. Also you can get 12 volt alternators cheaper than 24 volt systems. Cheers, Larry.

I have been told a Delco can be converted to 24 volt very cheaply. Was told local auto part store was selling them for less than $150 a year or so ago.

If you have the old generator, probably the simplest conversion is to install a pulley on the back of the generator shaft (may take a new, longer shaft and use a belt drive alternator mounted on top of it.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄
