Jan asked me to post some things about the Cat 16 we just had donated to our club. Serial # is 49G276. It was built in September 1965. Specs on it are it has 343 turbo charged engine. With is 10 ft, height is 11.5 feet, length is 37 feet long. It weighs in about 60,000 lbs with ripper and push bar. When we got it the water pump frizzed up but it is under way getting fixed. It has a 14 foot blade on it.
It came from the estate of Bill and Helen Crawford and was donated by their Melissa.
My son Erik will post photos.

Man that’s quite a grader, I suppose you could clean up a pretty big mess with that. That’ll be fun to play with.

Nice. Front tires might tell a story?

I spent over a year during 1970-71 on a job working around a Cat 16 blade. In the beginning it was used for building and maintaining haul roads and later on for subgrade. That machine could move a lot of dirt...it was a brute.
D-4 7U-43159 with 4S dozer and Cat 40 scraper, D-7 3T-1179 with Cat 7S hydraulic dozer, D-7 17A 13,944, D-8 14A-1160 with Cat 8S cable dozer, Cat 12-99E-4433 Grader. All runners and users.

Roger it is not what you think, the former owner hit something and blew out the tire so they put one one they had laying around.

Pete you can bring your mom back and we will let her run it. My best blade man is in charge of it. He walked it around there like it was a 212.
I have 25 quad axle loads of fill to get moved and spread out, this old girl will do it in no time.

Roger,

This one is harder. Not sure how this happened but it seems like just one side spent time in the mid-west (?)

Actually, when I looked at the pictures, I thought, because the tire was so badly worn, Roger will be off the hook on this one! When they are worn like that, we can just "wink" at the backward mounting. I would guess it came off one of the drive wheels at some point.

TW- Neat grader you have there. I have spent some time on one but that was after it was already pretty worn out in 1989! Thanks for the pictures and the info.
