The Cat book says they came out in 1959 so it could be a 1960 grader as my book only has start up dates but some on here has books with the exact date of manuf. They are listed as a 14C and not an E series. The book says the 14D came out in 1961.
There is another vin that is something91something. I'm at work and dont have the books so I can't tell for sure. The book lists it as an E so that might not be the right vin or wrong book? Where should I look on the machine to see if the vin tag is still there? It runs well and has a V plow also and form my digging the $5,000 I paid looked like a good deal, any imput on that?
Ben
The serial number should be on the left rear of the block just below the head so look there.I can,t remember if or where a 2nd SN plate is on them but maybe someone else can help there. The 3 14E SNs are 72G & 99G & 12K so you need to check the serial number before we guess any more on it. The 14C grader is a 35F serial number so look for a 35F on the SN plate or any other number.
The parts book lists serial numbers of 96f1. I will look at the machine on Thursday, but I doubt the tag on the front will still be there.
Thank you,
Ben
The 96F1-up series is a Model 14D (1962-1965)
Dover..I bought a 96F 14D in 1999 for 4 thousand, had a bad axle, support, bearings, etc, etc,. Spent 2 thousand getting it fixed. Stong machine, it would easily push a moldboard full of dirt. I used it for over four years and sold it for 10 thousand, I think you did all right, if everything works.
The 14D 96F has a 4sp trans with a forward and reverse lever. The 14E 99G has hydraulic over mechanical controls. A couple of ways to tell them apart.
