Am looking at a 12 grader serial number 7od2978. Can anyone tell me the age and ball park price for it. Looks fairly decent but the tires are weather checked pretty bad. Thanks for any help Jim

Late 1958
Should be a pony start engine or it was when it left the factory..
D318 4.5" bore 6 cylinder engine set to 115 Hp
Little over 23,000 pounds plus cab, options like scarifies etc plus fluids.
Standard 12' moldboard...... there were some optional extensions
Manual clutch/gear drive "knuckle buster" type blade controls......not hydraulic!
6 F/2 R transmission, top speed about 19 mph
Oil clutch that shares the engine oil. A section of the engine oil pump feeds oil into the clutch to cool and lubricate it and the rotation of the flywheel and clutch pressure plate flings the oil back to the engine crankcase through a channel cast in the flywheel/clutch housing

Value is what someone will pay! Pictures and location might help! Also operate the controls before purchasing. When the dog clutch controls are worn out it is impossible to get things to move. One in good shape will push down on the moldboard and lift the front wheels off the ground. A worn out one will not engage under a load and chatters the lever when you try. The motion is a quick, forceful push or pull of the lever, NOT a gentle feathering motion like a transmission clutch! Stop the motion the same way, quick pull or push to the neutral/hold position.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Thanks for the information. They are asking $4500.00 for it now. Going out next week and take a look at it.
