Hello,

I could get a Carco winch from Allis-Chalmers HD21 or HD16 as owner is scrapping what's left of the dozer and that is the winch and part of the transmission. I think I could get it near scrap value.

I'm just wondering, will I ever have any use for it? For example, can the winch be fitted to D7D or D8H? That might have some impact on my future projects as Caterpillar with big winch is something that I've always wanted. 😊

By the way my D8H 36A dozer is now back in piece and I have done very devarding pushin work around my property. I still have some painting to do, but that's for the next summer.

How about some pictures of your D8 doing some pushing. We all enjoy them. Or a short video for the sound effect.

Since you asked. 😊

Here's a video that I shoot few days ago. I haven't edited it yet, but it's something. I need a new soledoind for the pony starter. The old one is sticking and I have to tap it gently to get the starter starting and also to make it stop.

Enjoy 😎😎

Looking at the new paint on the main you must have gone into it pretty deep. Thanks for saving another one. I like the look of the cab.

I have a Carco towing winch on the back of my D7 3T. They used an adaptor plate one inch thick that covers the entire back of the Cat--heavy sucker. It's a very good winch. A lot of people prefer them to Hyster; I don't have an opinion on that.

So find a Cat adaptor plate or blueprint for one, otherwise you might be getting a heck of a door stop...

Thank's, I really love to bring old machines back to life. I can't tell which is more fun, bringing them home from somebody's back woods or frist test drive after first start.

Jack you anwered my biggest questiong. The thing that worried me was if installing Cargo winch to Caterpillar would require intermediate gearbox or someting like that. If adabter plate is all that is needed, I think I have use for that winch. I can make CAD drawings of it and have that plate plasma cut nearby shop.

Your 36A looks great. You might want to check to see how the Carco winch is powered. I have limited winch knowledge but a winch which will fit your 36A should have a shaft and a spline coupler between the winch and the transmission output shaft. Direct connection. The question I have is the spline connector the same for both AC and CAT and is the shaft the correct length. It can all be machined but you don't want to have more work in the machine work than the winch is worth in your area.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
