I recently bought this old winch it had stood for 25yrs and was stuck it is a model G. I was told it was working well when removed .I stripped it completely and apart from the brakeband as far as im concerned its perfect it now turns freely by hand on the input shaft it is very heavy and a tribute to its makers. Please can anyone say what the capacity of the winch is I think these were fitted to some uk forestry comission D7s in the 60s

In a catalog dated 8/47, the Model G winch used on the D7, has a line pull with a bare drum of 42,000 lbs.

Sorry, that's all I know about it.

There is a third picture.....might as well have the set. Yes, it is a "G" model.

The Carco Model G winch could be fitted to a number of makes of tractors. I do not have the Model G catalog for the D7, but I do have the Model G catalog for the A-C HD-10.

Interestingly, the HD-10 Model G line pull, with 101 PTO HP, is 39,000 lbs on a bare drum.

Also of interest, is that the main case is a one-piece casting, and was made from a patented, high strength, alloy steel that Pacific Car and Foundry called CARCOMETAL. The Carco winch also used heat-treated alloy steel gears, 4 stage gear reduction, and interchangeable standardised parts.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
