Hi All,i have been greasing my D7 dozer and have found all the grease nipple locations except the 2 for universal joint as described in the maintenance manual.I have put a few pics up and was hoping someone might guide me in the right direction as to the greasing points.
Also want to check my final drives for oil and was wondering what the appropriate shifter is to undo the filler plugs.
On another topic, while looking at my maintenance manual,it shows the 2 serial number locations but i have a ripper mounted so probably removed at the back,i did find where the serial number used to be located on the engine, unfortunately only the rivots remain,i did clean back to bare metal where the serial plate had been hoping it might have been stamped on the block but no luck.I do know the serial number as written in the parts book but still would be good to see the number on the dozer. On my 933 traxcavator ,the serial plate was missing at the rear but was stamped into the rear housing where the plate had been. All help will be appreciated,
regards John.

You might have to turn the u joints to find the zerk. As far as the final plugs. I believe it is a 3/4 bolt about 2in long with 2 nuts jambed and welded on the end will work just fine. I believe Cat still has them new for a price also.

The new plugs are 3/4" square. Should be a serial # plate on the dash near the lower right side above where the compression release lever would go.

There may be two plugs instead of grease nipples in the U/J, take them out, fit nipples, grease them and put the plugs back, do not over grease.

Am I wrong? That looks like a crack in the housing in the second pic.

Thanks for everyones help,i will crank the motor over a little to see if i can find the grease nipples or even plugs like you mentioned catsilver, the manual says there are two.Its not the easiest to get to,should i be looking at the knuckle ends or the centre,i'll have another look today.
The housing side is covered in thick grease where it looks like a crack,i'll scrape it away and see what it reveals.
The filler plugs have had a hard time over the years with not having the right tool for the job,i will see if Westrac can help me or might make the tool with bolt heads like you suggested kracked1.
There are two plates under the dash, they were covered in paint, think one is a caution advice,i'll have a closer look at the one nearer the compression lever and remove a bit more paint to see what it reveals.

That should be the plate just above the lever. The lever positions are to the right for "START" and to the left for "RUN". You should be able to turn the yoke by hand, the fittings should be between the universal yolks like it shows in the manual, not the center link. That lever looks out of position, it should be more straight up. Is it even working correctly? Ok, I see it is electric start, must just have a worn detent behind the dash. Then you would leave it to the left.

The drain plug number is 0L-0827 and gasket is 0L1124. Put the "open" side of the gasket towards the plug flange.

Hello
I believe the latest tool for these plugs is 212-8146 adaptor using 1/2" drive bar.
About $46 Aust +.

Thanks for the info Rome K/G,i had another look at the dozer today and found the 2 grease nipples by turning the uni joint,i was thinking of manual transmissions when i said i might have to crank it over,it turned easy by hand.So all grease points found.I still have to check the final drives and just happened to find a nut the same size as the filler plug hex,i will buy a bolt, weld it together and take the plugs out and buy 3/4" square plugs.
I had another look at the tags under the dash again,a fair few microns of paint rubbed away with thinners,(no scraping), found altitude information and warnings. My manual tells me only 2 serial number locations at the back and on the motor so i will have to rely on the information someone has written in the parts book. Thanks everyone for helping,
regards John.

Hi Gary, thanks for letting me know,i will inquire at Westrac to see if they have the tool.It looks like the previous owners of the dozer over the years had problems removing the plugs without the right tool, looks like they have tried using a screwdriver to try and remove the plugs at some stage of its life,
cheers John.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
