Anyone have tips on what to use to get corn head grease into the button head fittings on my D6 rollers and other places? I can't get it to squirt out of a regular gun with sufficient pressure and I got a new one with the same results.
should I use a battery powered gun? are they pressure adjustable so I don't blow out the seals?

Or... am I wrong to use corn head grease? The book says "track roller lubricant is a stringy, tacky lubricant of a semi-fluid consistency..." which I interpreted as corn head.

You can use your grease gun you have to have an adapter to go on the button head and a fitting on the other end to connect to your grease gun.  But be careful you can blow the seals out.

I found a grease gun that only does about 2k psi and used a button head adapter. Even still, you have to be careful and stop pumping as soon as you feel pressure in the handle, or you will blow out the seals as Skinner said above.

i purchased a button head applicator and installed it on a good lever type grease gun with a hose. i but the cornhead grease in the tubes just like regular grease. the only thing is you need to pump and feel the pressure build and stop before you blow the seals. it is very obvious to feel or get the over pressure relief valve and install on the buttonhead tip.

the button head fitting or roller shaft may have old harden grease in it--that will be needed to cleaned out

you can buy semi fluid grease. not all guns will pump it. also make sure the cup is around the right way as it has to be reversed if you are using bulk grease. most 450gram guns are set for cartridges. ngli 000 grease is almost runny. caltex had a grease called EPC in ngli grade 000 it was popular in australian coal mines as a track lube. multifak ep is the new name.

alemite and mcnuaght both supply adapters for the 7/8 button heads and the cheapest place to buy the fittings is the dealer the local dealer charged us $7.50ea compared to ordering from alemite at $21.00ea

if you think the fitting is blocked simply remove it and have a poke around with a skewer to see if the grease has hardened.

you can get modern style grease relief valves set for a range of pressures and with a few fittings and the adapter could make a relief adapter for roller greasing.

maybe it is that the button head fitting is partially blocked. grease oozes out but doesn't squirt out. it's a nice shiny fitting but has been sitting and who knows what's inside. rather than mess with it i'm going to get a new one and see if that was the problem. i have 0 grease in the gun.
