business and sales of Cats

Has the bad business climate affected the sale of our vintage Cats?( on this site). Seems that the responses to FOR SALE has not been enthusiastic like it has been in the past. Any ideas or thoughts? Usually disposable income does not affect collectors. They know what they want and grab it at the first chance. What do you think? (I mean if you can respond to blogs and e-mail using your i-phone or i-pad, things can't be that tough.) Just a random thought. Phrank

I think that the soft ecomomy has had an effect on the tractor and cars and truck collector.I have watched some of the bigger car auctions on tv and the prices are down.On the tractor side I can only go by what's here on the BB.I have picked up a Cat 10 that was completely restored for about half of what it should have gone for.The gentlemen that I got it from paid what I gave him plus $500 and he have it for about 4 years.In both cases the sellers needed the money.I brought it locally as the fellow before me did.Once you have figured in some transportion cost then you have best be buying below market price.The cost of restoring either a tractor,car or truck today is big money.I am just finishing up a 1956 Ford f600 stake body and about to do a 1964 Mack B87 tractor that has been in the family since new.The ford I brought in from Montana.Always wanted one so I brought it,did I pay to much I don't think so $3000 and $2000 to truck.Mike Durkin

Old FORD's are going for about half of what they valued 3 years ago.
Old John Deeres are down as are the IH's.
Higher transportation costs are limiting longer hauls to a few who just plain have too much money.
Small Buyer/Collectors are hurt in the softer economy as their Over/Time is down leaving less "Toy Money" available making them concentrate on Living finances.
Also as far as how fast stuff is selling on here is dependant on what it is. If it is fairly common, then a larger Collector probably already has at least one or two variations of it. Rarer stuff "probably" tends to sell quicker but also that is dependant upon price verses current value.
