Hi members I bought a 2F series 22 the other week and have a bunch of questions to get started on it

1. I need to adjust the right brake, I see some sort of adjustment screw behind the plate where your foot rests?

2.The best place for replacement fuel pumps or rebuild kits?

3.Oil seeping from head gasket, should I bother to reseal?

4.Does anybody out there have a spare lower coolant pipe they are willing to part with?

5.Is Hahn tractor seats the best place to get a replacement seat?

6.Does anybody make replacement boots for where the brake pedal rods enter the brake compartment?

7.Does anybody have a radiator cap they are willing to sell?

Cheers

Hi Nick 22,, How is the 5U Going ? and now another Challenge !! John Hahn seats are the only way to go ,he also supplies the Leather Kit and Boots as required . What is your Problem with Fuel Pump ? If it is Diaphragm only ? . my experience with these is varied there are Several types of Stems on the diaphragm I have found , and not interchangeable . I have made new Diaphragm's from Proper material I got from a Gasket Shop is Brisbane , not cheap , I needed two layers to get Right thickness , I could punch out a set if You think that is Your Problem and shoot it over on the Snail Mail. Those Style of pumps fit various models . I think Chad Enyart in Wyoming has Kits ,[or did have ] But watch the stem.
Radiator Cap , may be available from Cat , certainly the Cork gasket , screw ,washer and lock clip are , I may have a s/h one here ,not sure. will have a looksee .
Your Oil leak to my mind how bad is it ? I haven't pulled a head on One Yet , That is still on the Bucket list ,if it is only slight , I probably wouldn't worry about it ,but if you do, Olson's Gasket can Supply them to you .
Your lower water pipe , Missing in action or Rusted out ? I usually get Exhaust shop to supply and bend pipe to suit and Weld them in . Clean old face plate up or make New one and bolt to radiator and the Tack weld to get alignment right. If missing I can't help You ,they are a Bit Scarce , but someone else may chime in with one . Good luck with the Rebuild . LJ

Hi Nick22, congrats on picking up the 22, they are a nice little tractor to drive
(1) you are correct
(2) there is a thread I started about 22 fuel pumps around this time last year, do a search of old threads, bottom line is there is a company in the USA that rebuilds them for about $US170 and does a brilliant job, their contact details should be in the Parts Sticky, I'm pretty certain I might have a spare new diaphragm here though you will probably have to punch the screw holes, there are plenty of 22's around that have the fuel pump bypassed and run happily provided you keep the tank filled and are not climbing hills all day.
(3) I saw a Cat advert from the 1930's saying it only takes about 4 hours to pull the engine apart, re ring it and have it back together, and assuming your head gasket is OK they can be safely re-used with a suitable gasket sealant, so if the leak is bad I'd pull the head, if the leak is small try re-torqueing the head first.
(4) I made a simple jig for those coolant pipes and had a couple of sets made by my local Engineering Shop, the cost was around $120 for both pipes, do you have the old pipes so the flanges can be re-used?
(5) John Hahn makes the best seats I've seen and sat on, though with exchange rates and air freight you will not see much change from $Aust900 by the time it is on your tractor, depending on who you talk to and how good a job you want, to get a seat made here in Oz costs anywhere from about $150 to $350.
(6) As LJ said, John Hahn makes the brake boots too, plus there is a throttle shaft boot.
(7) I have a box of new 22 radiator caps I bought from John Matta sitting in Oregon right now waiting for a sea container ride, if you get stuck I would look at bringing some out to Oz by US Post.
Regards
Mike

Hi mike,
I would be interested in a deal on a 22 radiator cap, when they arrive, if you have spares. Also run my 22 without the pump, never had any trouble at all. I removed head and 'jugs' on mine chasing oil leaks with no real dramas. I think I would have sprayed the head gasket with Hylomar, an acl product I think. No issues ever since, and as this was the first cat here, it received a great deal of attention from me. Probably done over 200 hrs since the resto and needs a tidy up now.
Hope you all enjoy your 22ing
Hutch

Thanks a heap everybody.

Hi Hutchy where abouts could I get some of this hylomar stuff from?

Hi Lance the 5R hasn't had a lot of attention lately since I got the 22 and would be willing to let it go to a good home since the baby crawlers are the ones that really float my boat, I'm having some issues with carby but might try push starting it one day with the tractor just to hear it run.

Would be much appreciated if you did have a spare radiator cap otherwise I could maybe borrow a cap off somebody who owns a 22 with a cap from the Dardanup heritage park near bunbury as a couple of the 22's there have original caps.

Hi Mike at the moment the fuel pump is bypassed but would be good to put it back to original one day but that would probably involve re-skinning the bottom of the main tank which isn't real that big of a deal. Would also be good to hear if you do have a spare diaphragm. Or if Lance has one he is willing to send across to me but will disassemble the pump just to check it out before I say what parts I need.

The flanges are still in place for the coolant pipe so might even have a go with the pipe bender on the farm if it can do pipe that small as the original has a fair portion rotted away at the bottom and is running a rubber hose at the moment.

Thanks again people, got some steering clutches to start stripping and rebuilding for my dads old Fiat tomorrow.

At Hastings yesterday picking up some Goodies and asked about those Cap parts . all available except Cap itself . I do have a very s/h one here , has some Rust spots on top and nut has thread gone . I could put an insert in it if You want it . and I have several gaskets here as well . suggestion here for You , if Your Cap stud is sad ,replace it with a Stainless steel one and never have that Problem again .
You mentioned Brakes on Your first post . to adjust take 2 stud Plate of just above Floor Plate and the adjusting Nut is looking at You , Ok get underneath and find the bottom Adjusting stud with lock nut release Lock nut and tighten stud till firm [Puts band against drum ] then do same on top . Top one is a ratchet type nut , Take in till firm then back of 1 1/2 Turns and then do Same on bottom . that gives lining clearance from drum all round.
Cheers LJ

Hylomar is available from Repco or Bursons - cost around 60 bucks last time I bought it - but it is a good product. Our local Land Rover specialist swears by it๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi Mark, If I bring some caps in via airfreight I'll let you know, I think I need a couple myself for the 22's I'm working on and I suspect I'll have those tractors running before "The Colt With No Regrets", Ol Wombat get's his sea containers on their way to Oz from the USA.

I've used a product from Permatex that has worked well, it is a spray on copper based high temp gasket sealant recommended for head gaskets, from memory it was around $24 for the can and available most places.

Hi mike,
I'm in no great hurry for the cap, I've made up one that looks ok and has been on for years now. It would just be good to get the proper one. Wombat might need to pay the bill and get that stuff moving, our dollar is turning into rusty steel in the mighty US at the moment, hardly worth the gold they make it out of!!

Last time I bought Hylomar spray it was at Bursons, I'd imagine Repco will have it or a similar product as Inter pointed out. Don't spend to much time on the Fiat, it'll tend to dumb you down if it takes to long!!!
Good Luck

I had a couple of questions to add

1. I'm looking to get new steering clutches handles. Does anyone know where to get a new pair or a part number from Cat?

2. The large grease fittings for the track rollers. I have a couple that need to be replaced and Napa is telling they don't have or make anything like that. Anyone have a part number or place that does sell them?

Thanks
