Tanker, firpitch I thought I was the only one into the Olds/Buick 215's. I have two of the Olds versions, and a set of Buick 300 Aluminum heads. (Supposed to be a better head than the stockers.)
I'm sure you know that Range Rover bought the rights to that engine design and were putting the Buick version in some of their vehicles in the 80's.

Nope, unfortunetly they are both sitting on the floor of my dads storage shed. One was completely rebuilt, ran for about 5k miles in the '62 F85 Cutlass it came out of before the automatic transmission bit the dust. The engine has been in storage ever since.😞
I've always wanted to put the 215 in an Opel GT with a modern 5 speed, but time and money just don't seem to co-operate.

I have a 215 Olds in a 1965 Corvair mounted in the rear where the Corvair engine came out. Car is 25 lbs heaver then stock, most likely the radiator and coolant. Running special Isky cam for left hand rotation of engine. also have a spare olds engine on the rack for replacement parts if needed. The spare engine is from a 1963 Star Fire, factory turbocharged, rated at 215 HP. Have a 215 Buick sitting next to the spare Olds. Corvair conversion was done 40 some years ago, by my dad. Still runs good and fool's lots at the stop light.

Frank Fox,
Advance adapters in Paso Robles used to market a conversion to put a small block Chevy in the back seat of a Corvair. I read an article in a hot rod magazine, written by a builder, and he loved to eat Corvettes with it. Of course the drawback to this horsepower was frequent replacement of the ring and pinion.

215's

One of my old high school/ college friends, used to build these engines for his father's hydroplane race boat, in the 170 ci class, (Ford Falcon) by sleeving the engine, and destroking the crank. 130-140mph was no problem.
Really could outperform the Fords. Had to design his own windage tray, to keep the oil from winding up wrapped around the crank.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
