Found this in the weeds and brought home the other day. Looks kinda small next to my grader, but should clean up well.
Any info on this scraper would be appreciated.
I looked for the s/n, but could not find one. I found on the neck where a small
tag is missing. Also on the neck was welded X-199 on each side.
It has the same tires front and rear, but I want to put the larger size on rear
like it should be.
What size should be on the rear and are they readily avaliable or hard to find?
Long term would like to restore back to cable use or convert to hyd.
Would like opinions on which way to go, I see plenty that are converted and
wonder if they are worth more restored original or converted.
Thanks for everybodys input.

That would be a 1Dxxxx model. Might have the number stamped where the tag is missing if you scrape around a bit.
Don't think it matters much converted or not so long as it's working.

What you have is a Caterpillar "round bottom" #60 cable scraper. As mentioned before, it is a 1D-xxxx serial number. The tires are typically 16.00x20 and are readily available--especially radials from military take offs. Parts are available from most Cat dealers.

If you need parts/tires, give me a call: 419-420-1551

Only 110 degrees yesterday here in Southern California so I decided to put another set of 16:00 x 21 tires on the Cat 60. Sunny and Hot, perfect for warming the rubber up.

Bosco,

As said you have a 1Dxxxx cat 60 scraper. If you have trouble finding the Sn a little paint remover in the area of the two small holes where the Sn plate was, should help in finding the same. Another thing is to check the rear axle on the left, if it has an adjustable (eccentric offset) axle used for leveling up the cutting edge it more than likely a 1D1089 or later. The eccentric offset axle become effective with that Sn for the 1D series 6O scrapers.

The tires with the diamond pattern were known as the “All Weather” tread. The Cat 60 had 1400X20 on the front and 1600X20 on the rear.

interesting pic there Kelly, that scrapers either a LaPlante choate or allis chalmers, definitely not caterpillar. You can see the apron-ejector hinge lever in the pic that only they used. Mayby a 314 or 315, tractor might be a HD19 or 20 ???
Were those 16.00 x 21.00 or 16.00 x 20.00?

We need two 16.00 x 21.00 for our No. 10 behind our DW10. I would really like to find some diamond tread, which is what I have now. They still hold air for now, but all the sidewall strings are hanging out and it won't be long before they blow out. If you found 16.00 x 21.00 I'd sure like to get a line on two more. Call me or email me if you have any advice (661) 343-3691 or pbloom (at) ymail.com.

Thanks,

Pete.
Pete, I still have the tires for the DW10's that we talked about a couple of years ago.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
