Hello,
For the past two years I have been rebuilding both engines in my D4-2T. Yesterday I put the injection pump housing back on the tractor after having gone through it, replacing the rollers. I timed the lifters to the engine and double checked the settings before installing the pumps. After bolting all the pumps down I turned the engine over by hand and heard a pop. One of the lifter yokes broke one of the ears off. I was certain that I got the pump plungers in the yokes properly but this one must have jumped out and gotten on top of the yoke. I think the yoke pushed the pump plunger up as far as it could then had no more space to move and broke. Is this the only way I could have broken it? The pump itself was free before installing. Am I missing something else? I reinstalled the pump in the broken yoke and turned the engine over some more and all seems ok. Could I run it with half a yoke? The remaining ear seems to be pulling the pump plunger back down. The injection pump also seems to be ok, I didn't break the shaft on it and it still operates smoothly. I am trying to get this thing going for a show starting this Thursday.

Could you braze the broken piece back on?
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

I was thinking about it, or having it TIG welded at work.

Brian;
If welding does not work, I have some yokes. [email protected] or 816 891 8654 Bill Walter

I brazed it up and it looks good. It was a clean break so I just clamped it together in a vise and brazed both sides. The broken faces matched up to keep both parts aligned. I already have a request in for another yoke, but if he doesn't have one I will take yours Bill.

I wouldn't use that after being brazed cause more than likely some of it melted into the seat where the plunger of the pump rides and will drastically affect timing of the pump.

If there is any bronze on the seat, the pump plunger won't slide into the yoke. Should be OK. Bill Walter

I was careful to keep the brass out of the inside of the yoke. I just brazed the two outside surfaces and the bottom where it meets the thread. The surface that touches the pump plunger is clean. I still haven't started it but the yoke is back in place.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
