Tioga Center NY, today we pulled a bridge span that had collapsed due to heavy flooding on Tues. Four 583's and Two big excavators "used as anchors" were used to pull the 100 foot and 150 ton span from the creek. It was very hard pulling to break it loose from the creek bottom and lift and pull it over the concrete abutment. All went well though.

Thanks for posting the pics TimT, Getting that span out of the creek is impressive. Replacing the span will be a chore too!

what caused the span to collapse? abutments get washed out, or high water and flow with debris catching on the thru girders?

The abutment was washed out completely on one end by the flow. The Susquehanna river is at the mouth of this creek, the main river was also very high so water was very fast and deep, not much place for it to discharge. This whole area has had bad flooding many times over the years. Its all river valley in NY Southern Tier.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
