Lost braking ability on my 922B at a rather inconvenient moment the other day. After changing my pants, I checked the master cylinder reservoirs and both had no visible fluid levels in them. The old manual calls for SAE 70 R3 brake fluid. Is there a modern equivalent I can use? I don't know what's in there now (or not in there, as the case may be) because I just acquired this machine a few months ago and did not get any info on the fluids from the previous owner... any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Matt,
You might think about changing to a DOT-5 fluid, which is silicone base , and does not attract moisture like DOT-3 does. This involves a complete draining and flushing the system.

I run the silicone based stuff in all my old cars and trucks....rubber parts last forever as well as the corrosion control advantage.

Thanks. I will give him a dot 5 infusion and hope the braking issue clears up simple. Much obliged.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
