Hey Daryl, it is obvious that Pon has been buying diamonds and doing lots of expensive shopping for herself.😘 That is a very poor excuse that you could not transport anything home, I hear there was a truck at the auction that would have brought home anything for you for nothing.:confused2: Petti coat government rules the world (vis; Daryl). Better luck next time, maybe you might be interested in a running RD4 with hydraulic blade in the Mitta Valley, going cheap.

I understand form the media coverage before the auction that most of the machines were 'restored' or at least were 'runners'.

If so then the prices realised appear to be quite reasonable (from a buyer's pov) and certainly a lot less than I've seen equivalent machines go for in Aus and Tassie recently. Perhaps prices are coming back after all the economy is taking a bit of a dive which will inevitably affect our ability to purchase and restore.

As an example unrestored D2's sell for over 10k here in Tas and something like a D7 17A sells for over 10k and both will need lots of work. A fully restored D2 orchard model can be had for over 30k if you want it😊 and a fully restored D4 7U sold for 20k last year with another in very good shape for sale for 13.5k.

I would be interested to know generally what condition the machines at the Bordertown auction were in and generally were the prices below expectation?

Most tractors were running and all had been kept in sheds. Very crowded sheds almost two deep in places. Some were well worn but what do you expect they were bought to be used and a lot were 70 years old. Almost all had some frank and honest description from the vendor on a tag attached for all to see. eg on a ten runs with patience, another transmission good engine worn out and so it went.
I suspect a lot of people went home wishing they had tried a bit harder and realizing they won't get another chance like that in a hurry.
I went with a wish list and a budget getting them to marry was a bit of a challenge. Chased a few lots bought a couple and generally pleased.
The vendor was very sorry to see his collection sold and hopes that most go to a good home. Sadly we are all getting older and closer to that decision ourselves.
cheers WF

Here are some photos of the R2 4J tractor we were successful in purchasing. The condition of this machine was quite original ( repainted with 2nd coat of paint from original), nice and clean. Appeared to have not been run for 5 years plus.
After the sale we put fuel in the tank, primed the cups and had it running in approx. 15mins and 12 cranks of the handle. Drove it to the ramp and onto the truck.
I would comment that all prices were probably $3K cheaper than 3-5 years ago. ( Hindsight would be nice to had others at the prices but float fees or a 6hr one way trip limited the shopping list as previously stated).
Good to see Peters collection redistributed for preservation and enjoyed by many.

Also a great day to catchup and meet other ACMOC members of Chapter 19 following Lake Goldsmith from a few weeks ago for another dose of Yellow fever.

Thanks Lance.
Yes there is a plastic 4l cover over the magneto. It is an eisemann mag, assume CM4 fitted. These tracks have recently been rebushed also. I recall a nice R2 at a QLD rally recently published on the BB. This machine will stay as is.

G,day Rax200.
Thanks for posting the auction results Daryl . Apologize for the slow response but have been busy with other things.
Probably best I wasn't there as the 2 D7,s would have been hard not to wave a hand at.
Passed 3 trailer loads on the Silver City Highway from the auction headed for a collector at Broken Hill.
I wonder if he is a B.B.er It would be great to see some photo,s.

Regards Andrew K......

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
